GOTHOPE2010/12 AND BEYOND

A call for empowerment.

by Elvin R Fahie Sr on 11/14/11

Good day to all Virgin Islanders all around the world, this is a call for empowerment.

Do we have qualified people in the Virgin Islands to fill administrative positions and perform professional and skilled work?

Is it necessary to pay top dollars to qualified Virgin Islanders if and when they are selected for service?

Or is it a general rule to reserve the choice positions and top pay for others from distant land and country?

Why do we train our children, why should they pay top dollars to prepare themselves to take their rightful place in our community, when employment seems far fetch. Is it right for me to say as long as our people, (Virgin Islanders) do not aspire to fill any of the choices position in our government, they probably may find employment.

It would appear that our government is the only one of its kind, always going through the Christmas season with special emphasis on jolly old Saint Nick.

Have we been sold to the highest bidder, we are experiencing hiring freeze, 8% salary cut, high gas prices, WAPA has its noose around our neck, our school campuses are battle ground, almost all of our high school graduates, even those on the honor roll are compelled to take skill classes before commencing their college studies. The average family has to hold conference to determine whether to skip a meal or pay their light bill or property taxes.

While most of us are struggling to keep food on our table, we must continue to view the picture of an, I don't give a darn government.

You are invited to join me and get on the bus for recovery. "DO NOT CRY, DO NOT FUSS, JOIN ME AND RIDE THE BUS FOR RECOVERY AS WE EMPOWER OURSELVES FOR 2011-2012 AND BEYOND. Yes there is HOPE.

When would it end

by Elvin R Fahie Sr on 10/07/11

If one would listen to those who are on the opposing side, there is no doubt the conclusion that president Obama has and is causing devastation in America will be reached. A reasonable person though will ask how long has the president been in office. They would also ask how long has America been in existence. Then most of all the flaws, wrong doing, practiced prejudice and bigotry of past presidents would have to be revealed and sorted out then balanced on the same scale with the faults they find in president Obama.

President Obama vision and desire to see that all Americans have affordable health care was met with resistance from the get go. It is very obvious that it is not because healthcare is not needed. Many other lawmakers having similar desire and vision has joined with the president to see to it that Americans are taken care of.

Those who oppose have found everything wrong with both the policy and the president. In their rage they have even been personal, disrespectful and have shown some of the same prejudice which has plagues America for years.

In spite of the wide support the bill got and was passed, it is still questioned and considered damning for American. They have so dubbed it the "Obamacare".  The mere word or words "Obamacare" signal the very same ignorance that has brought us thus far. How can Obama have any kind of care when so many others have participated in the passage of the legislation?

The question is; are we any further away from the same prejudices and bigotry which has plagued us for so many years. Life for us if we are ever going to make it must be "FAIR and HONEST". No one of us or group of us has the answer, we have all been wrong at least one or more times in the short life span we shared. All of our jesters, thoughts and actions were or is tainted by our personalities, personal pride, dislike or prejudices.

At what point in our life has anyone appointed us judge, jury and executioner. How could they when we ourselves have so much to be desire of our decision making, behavior and dealing with each other. There is a need for reproof and correction, but we must carefully weigh the expected results that in our haste we do not bring about an unnecessary revolt.

America has been for many years in a stalemate and pretence; leaders over the years have been so dubbed as right just because of who they were. Many were not given the chance to be themselves rather they were forced to be all that others with agendas of their own desire of them to be and rightfully so.

Each of us and any of us will and must include some of self in every decision; however honesty will always limit the amount of self injected.

For some reason my mind continue to point me in the direction that right is right and wrong will always be wrong no matter the dressing or camouflage.

Almost all of our struggles in America points to the fact that we have been wrong in many instances, we have oppressed, lynched, segregated, wrongfully opposed and practiced personal prejudices for many years under disguised.

When will we become the America we only speak about? I do envision a true leader for our country, but he or she is not white, not black, not male or female, not democrat, republican, tea party, green party or any other.

Who is or can be? Let the one without fault cast the first stone.

The America we love

The America we love

Wake up everybody; let us keep our pledge to old glory of the true spirit of the America we love and the American people we cherish.

Say whatever you want about America and her people. However, when it comes right down to the task at hand, America and her resilient people always shine through.

Americas' present in Japan lending a helping hand to a Japan in need, tells a true story of forgiveness and signifies that we are our brothers' keeper.

America in Japan also speak much of the people of America and how we are able to look beyond faults and see needs; a very profound measure in forgiveness.

This is better demonstrated by Jesus, He who looked beyond our faults and continues to see our needs.

Pearl Harbor could have continued to be the stumbling block in the pathway of America and her people. However, as strong and as touching as each line of the star spangled banner, America has once again came through the night and is still standing.

As members of the human race we too must learn; no matter who we are or where we are, no matter how high or low, rich or poor we must forever know this; truth has no right or wrong, truth has no upper class, middle or lower class, truth is not positional or condescending based on stature.

Truth is truth and it is for all and can be found in all. Most of all truth is Christ.

America you are even brighter. People let us forever be true to our God and our homeland and the principles that has brought us this far.

Each vote counts, never underestimate the power of one vote. Never underestimate the power of your vote.
If you are eighteen (18) years or older,  a US citizen residing in the US Virgin Islands, or a Virgin Islands resident and have not yet register to vote; I encourage you to go get registered
Make your vote count this election. I believe together we can do much better. Therefore, I am asking each registered voter for one vote, your vote of confidence. When elected I pledge to  work very hard for all citizens of the territory. I further pledge to work as diligent to bring about changes in as many areas of our government as is possible. I do realize that alone I cannot do it. I need your encouragement, your prayers and monetary support.
“MISSION”

Our overall “MISSION” is to bring about major changes for our communities.  This is the promise every four years but it should be an ongoing collective effort between our elected officials and the communities’ they represent.  This year I too am offering change but the change I am offering is community focused, driven and all inclusive.

When elected I will be taking with me each day your concerns, issues, and problems as well as your suggestions.  For far too long we have embraced the talk of change with no action.  We need significant changes that will have impact in our communities in many areas.  Areas such as our educational systems, our safety, and our economy all of which can be implemented through well thought out strategic legislation with community collaboration.  So my friends I ask are we ready for these types of changes?

Can we be the change we seek for 2010?  Change is not easy and is often met with challenges, resistance and obstacles.  However, it is possible with aligned focus, actions and commitment. My friends how open are we to change?  What is our commitment and what actions are we willing to take to help bring about change in our communities?  Are we willing to fight for the changes that are necessary and beneficial for the betterment of our communities?  Are we willing to fight against change that will benefit a chosen few and exclude many in our communities?

My friends the time for change is now.  There is a choice to be made for the future of our communities.  You can help to bring about that change by joining me with your vote this November.  Together we can be the changes we seek providing hope for our communities for our generation and beyond.
